Last Christmas

Christmas day is here again

And sadness greets me like a friend

As memories flood through my mind

Of what happened last year at this time.

I couldn’t believe when I woke up to find

The house quiet, there being no sound

I rushed down stairs in my excitement to see

That there were no presents there but mine.

When I looked around and asked “where is everyone at”

The shadow hiding in the corner answered

“Sorry but they won’t be coming back”.

This confused me a great deal so I raised my voice to question again

“Why are they gone”.

And all he said was “why darling, dear, because they are dead”.
